Under the Sea – Children’s Waiting Room

Our latest design and installation was for the Vancouver Coastal Health clinic at the Alan Cashmore Center.

The idea for this play/waiting area was to use very fun and playful imagery in a simplistic design  that would make the area enticing for children in the waiting room, but not so much that they are too distracted when it comes time to leave.

The majority of the work was created using a CNC router to mill out the major shapes and design elements. The fish were printed in vinyl sticker, as well as the bubbles and waves. Almost all of the other elements were pressed with laminate to ensure a long lasting life of vigorous play.

The clinic provides treatment and support for children between 1 & 5 years old, as well as their families. It is a welcome addition to the already fantastic  environment of the clinic.

North Vancouver Public Library: Reading Tree

A project that we have been working on for quite some time has just seen the last of us, and the North Vancouver Public Library now has a new reading tree! We completed a series of wall murals for this Library about a year ago and are glad to have been able to add this final element, which can be opened up and used for storage as well as decoration. Jud and Kyle install the final bushy bits below.

This tree has been quite the undertaking as far as construction goes. We did the fiber-glassing ourselves but it’s been in and out of our shop multiple times for painting and finishing… both for the bark and the “housey” elements. Just for fun, here are a few shots of this thing in the works.

Recently Completed Work

We’ve just finished a number of projects including two large installations and several smaller furniture items. Check them out below and let us know what you think!

The last project to head out the door: a completely custom storage unit created for a private residence.

Beautiful and functional, each of these houses forms a closed shelving unit.

Also new to our Portfolio: a Play Area commissioned by the Vancouver International Airport. The Whistler Play Area is only the most recent of a number of Children’s Play Areas we have designed and built over the years for YVR, including the Tugboat, Maze and Lighthouse Areas.
This permanent installation gives kids an inspiring place to play and read while waiting for their flight to depart.

Also just installed were some custom pieces designed for BC Premier Gordon Campbell. These pieces make use of wood felled by the Mountain Pine Beetle and its unique blue-gray streaks.
