Little Pink Dresser

You might be familiar with our Little Black Dresser, so here’s the newest version designed for a great cause: The Little Pink Dresser.

Judson is always looking for a great cause to be a part of. This year he decided to do a Little Pink Dresser as a donation piece for the Luxe Home Interiors Chair-Ity event with proceeds going to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation-BC/Yukon Region.

The Dresser was showcased at the 2012 IDS West Show in Vancouver before making the trip to Victoria for this special event.

The Bubble Cabinet & Apple Cabinet

Check out a new idea Judson created using 14-ply walnut plywood!

The Bubble Cabinet

After enlisting the help of a local CNC programmer, we created a random bubble pattern in a sheet of plywood that defies explanation. As the CNC router head carved out the grooves for each bubble, each subsequent layer of plywood is revealed. The result is a beautiful product that could not have been created with hand tools.

Check out the layers revealed by the CNC router!

We’ve also been busy created this cabinet that looks like a bitten apple, aptly titled:

The Apple Cabinet

Have you ever seen a cabinet like this?

It was constructed with maple veneered plywood for the actual cabinet portion. For the bitten area, we used a 2-part expanded foam, carved, and the fiber-glassed with a matte white paint on top.

Check out the detail in the bite marks! It's still a functional cabinet!

Tree Rings

We’ll be calling these pieces “Tree Rings” when we debut them in the Summer Lights show at duthie gallery on July 1st.

The Tree Rings came about after we were invited once again to take part in the Summer Lights show on Salt Spring Island. Since we have been working with large amounts of split Pine Beetle wood recently, we saw it fit to take our idea for the colour-tinted resin tops to the outdoors with these illuminated pieces.

During the day they are a nice perch for your feet or your drink or your . Simple and playful.

...come gather 'round!

At night however, they transform into something else entirely. Illuminated from within, the different coloured tints in the acrylic resins flood the surrounding area with a bright and lively luminescence .

Summer Lights features illuminated works of  art in the environment, artifice in nature, pieces of public art made to be visible in the dark. Viewable from distances and infinite perspectives, they  illuminate the trails and the towering trees of the Woodworks landscape and transform it into a new place, startling, playful and beautiful.  Each piece changes and evolves through the day in different lights and times and weathers.

duthie gallery is open daily from 10 am to 5 pm and  FRIDAY AND SATURDAY NIGHT  from  NINE TO MIDNIGHT through July and August.

It’s not about the Chair, it’s what you put into it!

This chair was designed to remove the excess bulk and 3-dimensional footprint out of a traditional arm chair.

The chair, by itself, is a perfect accent to nearly any environment you could place it in. Whether it’s filled with water bottles and towels for a health club or spa, or filled with books for a lobby or library reading area, the chair can blend seamlessly into the surrounding decor.

It was constructed from 618 individually cut pieces of Baltic Birch plywood, and upholstered in vinyl. The pieces were designed on a computer to be cut out via CNC so that they would each be identical, to ensure the seamless joints would accommodate the stress-load of everyday use.

The chair is something different and surprising that represents the simplicity, functionality and fun of Judson Beaumont’s designs.

IDS West

We had a great time meeting people at IDS West his year! The booth looked great and we had a load of people coming to look the new Sally Dresser! She was the perfect piece to feature, what with the show occurring so close to Halloween.

Judson's Tim Burton Tribute of the year

Jud also introduced his new “Quilted” Series! More of these will be appearing in his upcoming Japan show at 100% Design Tokyo. He will also be doing a presentation entitled “Environmental Design & Wood” featuring his work with Pine Beetle Wood.

"Stitched" Wood Table Top

Jud has been experimenting with how we can be more resourceful in making use of wood that would otherwise be thrown away. The effect of putting these small scraps together came out rather like a quilt. We’ll see where this route takes us!
